How to Optimize a Used Chromebook for Working, Typing, Taking Surveys, and Building Websites

Amidst the soaring RAM prices and gadgets being affected, I took steps by buying a used Gear that was still very affordable under IDR 1 Million, namely a Chromebook. Why a Chromebook? This is because Chromebooks are known for their lightweight OS and their reliance on Google Cloud or Google One, which we subscribe to for 100 GB for IDR 36,000 per month. That's enough to manage and is sufficient for me. 100 GB is sufficient for me, and when it's full, I can still sort the data and delete it.

If you're using Windows, we don't recommend it, as Windows is notoriously heavy and overly complex. If your only task is typing or other light tasks, choose a Chromebook for its agility. So, here are some tips to keep your laptop light and agile enough to handle your daily tasks:

1. Don't Fill Up Your Laptop's Storage

This is crucial. If you want a large storage plan, purchase a larger Cloud plan on Google One. There's a Standard option with 200 GB for IDR 54,000 per month. Or the Google AI Plus 200 GB option, which gets more advanced AI features for IDR 83,000 per month. You even get a discount if you pay upfront for the annual plan.

2. Don't force your Chromebook to do tasks it's not designed for, like heavy gaming or 4K video editing.

These aren't Chromebooks' jobs. If you need these tasks, you can buy a gaming laptop, a creator laptop, or a workstation.

3. Xbox Cloud Gaming Might Be a Solution

As long as your internet connection is stable, your Chromebook only functions as a "screen," while the gaming process is handled by an external server.
